Nearly fifity years ago, Dr. Seuss was asked by a friend at United Productions of America to come up with an idea for an animated cartoon that was new and different — more than just the usual cats chasing mice. And that's how Gerald McBoing Boing came into being. The cartoon attracted legions of fans in America, and went on to win an Academy Award in 1951.
